Activity 9: Looping Backgrounds


The setting is the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place.  In Animation, the animator can trick the eye by creating multiple moving layers (set at different speeds).


  • Create an activity 13 subfolder in your Unit 1 folder,
  • Create a new Actionscript 3.0 file,
  • Save as firstlastname_activity13.fla in your Unit 1/Activity 13 subfolder,
  • Set the stage and properties to:
  • Follow instruction to create activity,
  • Import the following background image to the library (or use a background of your choice),

  • Identify different background layers and illustrate on different layers,

  • Name each layer appropriately, i.e., stars in the sky layer (bottom layer) moon layer, pumpkims on branches layer,  mountain layer, town layer
  • Animation must:
    • be a minimum of 4 seconds,
    • display 5 looping background layers (stager the time, speed and distance of each layer),
    • integrate and move  your Activity 10 Jack the Pumpkin King on the top layer,
  • Save as: firstlast_activity13.fla
  • export media as:   firstlast_activity13.swf
  • export movie as: Quicktime:,
  • Upload your quicktime file to your vimeo channel,
